This was my first QTH which I shared with my dad Tony, N3ME (ex KC3AJ, WB3CZK), in Ashton, Maryland. I was stationed here from September 17, 1977 to September 30, 1984. Our station consisted of a Kenwood TS-430S and a 3 element tribander at 50 feet. Many of my DXCC countries were worked from this QTH.
Frank has four towers that are 200 feet high and three rotating 150 foot towers. Frank also has two towers in my backyard that are part of a 160 meter Four Square. Frank has graciously let me bury three runs of 7/8 hardline between our QTHs (700ft) allowing me to get on the bands when there aren’t any contests running.
After I got married to Becky, N3OSH, we bought a QTH in Glenelg, Maryland. Thanks to the help of my friend Frank Donovan, W3LPL, I put up a 75 foot tower and a TH7 tribander. This QTH was were I learned the higher the antenna the better. I also learned that if you have a choice between an amplifier or a tower choose the tower!
